Day 5 - Sunday Sermon Recap
Welcome to Day 5 of our weekly devotional based on last Sunday’s Sermon:
Galatians 4:4-7 “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, ‘Abba! Father!’ So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.”
Galatians 4:4-7 reminds us that at just the right moment, God sent His Son to redeem us so that we might be adopted into His family. This adoption is the turning point in our spiritual makeup—it’s the moment our old, enslaved nature is replaced by a new identity.
Through the Holy Spirit, we no longer live as captives to our former ways. We have been given a new DNA—one that marks us as the body of Christ, the bride of Christ, and most importantly, as members of God’s household. Everything we have seen in the past few weeks was made possible through the redemption that Christ achieved on our behalf.
Now, as believers we are not defined by earthly systems of separation; instead, our citizenship is in the eternal kingdom, where we share the same body, the same hope, the same Spirit, the same faith and the same God and Father. Now through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit we can share and intimate relationship with our Heavenly Father, crying out “Abba! Father!” As the assurance of our new status.
This adoption isn’t just a title; it’s a radical change in nature. Our hearts have been transformed by the Spirit, aligning us with the values of God’s kingdom and empowering us to live as His heirs. Embracing this new DNA means living out our identity as redeemed, unified, and loved children of God, destined to reflect His grace in every aspect of our lives.
How does knowing you have been adopted into God’s family change the way you see your identity? Meditate on what it means to call God "Abba, Father." How does this intimate relationship change the way you approach Him in prayer? Reflect on the incredible inheritance we have as co-heirs with Christ. Embrace the transformation of your new DNA and ask God to help you live with the confidence and security that comes from knowing you are His beloved child.
