When God's Providence Becomes Visible / Cuando la Provision de Dios se Hace Visible (Ruth 2:18-23)
Throughout the book of Ruth, we have watched God quietly working in the lives of Ruth and Naomi, even when they could not see or understand what He was doing. In Part 6 of The God Who Redeems, we come to Ruth 2:18–23, where some of that providence finally begins to come into view.
Naomi had returned to Bethlehem convinced that the Lord had brought her back empty and that His hand had gone out against her. But when Ruth returns home from the fields of Boaz carrying an abundance of provision, Naomi begins to recognize something she could not see in the middle of her suffering: the Lord had not withdrawn His kindness.
Through Naomi’s changing perspective, Joseph’s story, and ultimately the cross of Christ, this message reminds us that difficult providence does not mean the absence of divine kindness. Sometimes God allows us to look back and understand what He was doing; other times, we may never fully understand His purposes in this life. But even when His hand is not clear to us, His character is. We do not have to understand everything God is doing in order to trust the God who is doing it. Our inability to see His kindness does not mean His kindness has ceased.
